FA Cup winners 2007

John Terry has lifted the FA Cup at the new Wembley after Didier Drogba’s late strike was enough to see off Manchester United.
The Ivorian scored his 33rd goal of the season in the 116th minute to seal the victory, Chelsea’s fourth FA Cup Final success following wins in 1970, 1997, and 2000 - the last time the Final was played at the old Wembley stadium.
A proper review of the game will be forthcoming over the weekend.

The best night of the season……..THE DOUBLE
Manu Played for penalties…they got what they deserved…..
As I always said no penalties NO Manu wins….
We have the bragging RIGHTS…..
Great!!!!!!!!!!!!
JM should be given an award for his effort. People say that The man is too arrogant but we all forget that this was the exact situation between SAF and Wergen, before the arrival of JM. JM left fc porto as a champ, Chelsea for 50yrs had no hope of raising a premiership, cup, but JM came he saw and he conquered and since then he has never passed a season without a cup in the English leauge.
Secondly people complain that he is a shame and has squandered AB fortune, but spare me that crap. Let me ask the whole English a question is there any club in these planet and maybe in the other planets, that has spent money or bought an all star squad like Real Madrid for these past seasons? i doubt not! if i may also ask into this season, what has RM acheived all this while with the “All Star Squad” i am not criticising them but just using them as a reference. so that people who think football is all about names, no football, it has gone passed that level, FOOTBALL IS ALL ABOUT DESPERATION, DETERMINATION, FOCUS AND SENSE OF MANAGEMENT and not underminding a “GOOD PLAYER-COACH RELATIONSHIP”, to everybody at there those who have ears let them hear, this is what Jose Mourinho has brought to “Chelsea” and the man deserves credit.
Hey how ‘re u doin Ankur
Drogs is king!!
Jose is God!!
ManUre and the rest of the anti-chelsea brigade and lick our balls!!!
God bless Roman’s Blue Army!!
O.k so both Chelsea and United deserved to be in the final, but honestly, neither deserved to win the game on that performace. Truly dreadfull!
blue is the colour!!! the best team won at the end of the day, chelsea got to the final on class, team spirit and hard work. man u-re got there on luck, easy fixtures and penalties. they were outplayed and outclassed, practically non-existent on the field, they more than met their match. well done my beautiful blue boys, i love ya all!!!
Martin,
The only team that deserved to win was the one that has won it!!! And by the way this team is Chelsea!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are the Double Cup winners!!!!!!!!!
any1 no if theres going to be a chelsea open top bus parade and when?
Hey lollipop how can you say Unitedgot to the final on easy fixtures? If i recall, which I will, United had a premiership team in every round, the only time you faced premiership opposition was in the quarter and semi finals, til then it was Macclesfield, Notts forest and Norwich, hardly tough games. you can’t even use the injuries excuse for losing the premiership, we had Neville out for half the season, Silvestre, Vidic, Heinz, Smtih, Park, Evra out for some long periods during the season. If you were so good you would have been able to cope with it. One final say When you’ve done the double or treble you can then call yourself a truly great team , or even won the champions trophy, until then you will always be a good team.
Absolutely awful final. I did the garden for most of the second half. Highly paid players serving up that garbage. They should reimburse the paying public.
forgive me joeclank but with this win did chelsea not achieve domestic double with the FA and Carling Cup? Therefore in your own words that would make us a great team
Here’s a part of what the commentary said after the final whistle: “Chelsea deserved to win because they were the only team who tried to, ManU played to collect the money, can we say that they played a commercial game?”
The nice thing about the Cup Double this season that it was over the Gooners and Manure.
what for the six of JM? To whom it was shown?
Proud To Be Blue
jpat ho wasit sneered at United last season when they only won the Carling Cup? i think you maybe clutching at straws when you claim a double with the two cups you “won”, every footy fan know the double knows the real double consists of the premiership and the FA Cup. Just a thought if the “goal” from Giggs wasn’t allowed then why didn’t the ref blow for a foul on Cech, its just like Liverpools against you, except this time you got the benefit of the doubt, even you must admit its over the line. Still he didn’t even see Essiens foul on Giggsy so what can you expect.
Giggs’s goal would haver been perfectly good - in a game of rugby. Watch the replay; Cech has the ball under control a foot from the line. And I’m not entirely convinced that Essien actually made contact with Giggs either (will happily stand corrected on a view of the replay though).
Great day; the journey started about 200kms south of Naples on Friday afternoon. Drive to Naples airport, flight back to Gatwick, back home at 3am, 4 hours kip, pub by 11am and finally home again last night at 1am. I’m bloody knackered!
Great stadium; get the impression someone cut a few corners in terms of facilities inside to keep the budget from going even higher. Can’t fault the view and the sheer size of the place is incredible.
Game wasn’t the greatest but fitting that a moment of magic from Drogba won it; much has been made of terribly dull Chelsea stifling the game, but United’s big players simply didn’t turn up. Scholes was superb though (albeit that he still can’t tackle). Performance of the day was from Ferreira - started to look like the Paulo of old recently and he had Ronaldo in his pocket for much of the game. Cech also magnificent.
More when I can stay awake. When John went up to lift the FA Cup, I was there…!
Phobia,
You have mentioned very nice point here. We have won Manure and Arse-anal to get our Cups and that means something!
Come on Chelsea The Double CUP winners!!!
joeclank, I think the ref played the advantage, as Cech had possession of the ball, and was then fouled as Giggs slide into him, pushing the ball over the line, so he let Cech play on, and I don’t think Essien did foul Giggs.
In the end it was a moment of focus, rather than a rush of blood to the head, four taps and the ball was in the net, Mikel>Drogba>Lampard>Drogba>GOAL!
At least it wasn’t penalties, now that’s when you are entitled to feel that you didn’t deserve it.
Yes I agree I’m a bit fed up with all this media coverage of how much of a dull game it turned out to be.
What the hell did they expect, two teams that looked like punch drunk boxers in the 15th round of a title fight.
Credit to both teams for the effort that was put in throughout the season, there’s been no let up on the 4 fronts from us and 3 fronts from them, so no surprises from me that they cancelled each other out.
All in all a great day to make history by being the first team to win the cup at the New Wembley.
And I have no doubt that every, and any team would have loved to have achieved that!
Extremely dull match, but I’m really happy that Chelsea won. Even happier, however, about Cristiano’s lol-inducing performance. “Best player in the world” my arse!!!
perfectly said david, everyone who`s got eyes in their head could see that giggs committed a foul on cech. you could actually see the cheating git nudging cech back over the line. typical of man u-re fans though to spit out their dummies when everything doesn`t go according to plan. i read an article last night where sir alex was claiming the ref had been influenced by t.s.o before the game, and the pitch wasn`t quite right for his golden boys, oh, and what was the other excuse? oh yeah, the team were exhausted, like they`re the only team who`ve played football this season!! as usual, excuse after excuse, instead of just admitting defeat to a more superior side on the day. david, you`re right, thank god it didn`t go to penalties because we all know the luck man u-re have had with them this season!!
Yup, I agree with lollipop. Giggs couldn’t deliver yesterday and so now ManUre are trying to point fingers at the ref, Jose, blah blah, not interested!
The fact of the matter is that Chelsea won and ManUre didn’t, so they need to go live with that.
And again, Cristiano played so badly! Yay!
I watched the match in Singapore where I am surrounded by many Man-U fans, and I was so happy to be the only one in the pub watching Chelsea taking the FA Cup trophy and had the joy of watching all of them sulk after the loss. I am a fan of Jose Mourinho and hope that he will stay on as the manager for Chelsea.
Just want to say great move by Chelsea and brilliant goal. Also for the people who are saying it was a boring match should try and think they are people not machines I mean it’s been a difficult and long season I weren’t surprised both teams were tired and were missing key players. Just want to leave this comment saying this, mark my words and mark them well next season Chelsea will be back with a vengeance, because now they have to do it all again and everyone will be up for it.
Peace Out…..
Well done Blues, you deserve every moment of glory and honour…Drogs came through for us again, he truly is “the greatest palyer in the world”, not Ronaldo who failed to even get a mention last night…its been a long and tiring season so to come out on top again is just another reminder of how brilliant Chelsea is, every layer has improved in my opinion and without charasmatic Jose i don’t think we’d have such a vibrant side..! :)
Take that cocky Rooney!
VIVA LA CHELSEA
2 Cups this season, very impressive!
Blue is still my favourite colour!!!
Given the circumstances, that both teams were playing in 3 and 4 fronts it’s understandable the display of exhaustion. But both were in the same conditions, so Man-U can not claim that as their disadvantage. Chelsea just showed a Killer Instinct that was brought by the TSO. No matter how the result is they never quit or freeze… they just can function until the last second, and use it well. That can not always be nice but surely is something to admire in this team. How many times have we seen them scoring and deciding the games just on the last minutes in this season…. That’s the Killer instinct I’m talking about.
For that matter was a well deserved victory, Man-U was just whishing for the penalties.
TSO was just the best it could have happened to Chelsea and the English football, since he arrived not only brought colour to the league he also pulled all major clubs to improve together with Chelsea. Long live TSO with Chelsea!!
I watched the game with a man u friend of mine and he admitted that it shouldn’t have been a goal. But i think that killer instinct to finish games off in the dying minutes makes us anything but a boring team. The game can seem like its over and then BAM we win the game in the dying minutes… those goals have gotten the best reactions out of me this season and made the games so much better
I didnt think it was the best of games.. but i think in the end the best team won!! Chelsea deserved to win!
Man U are just bad loosers!! They always have to come up with excuses for everything, face it you lost!!! And as for ronaldo and roonie, YOU SUCK!!!
Well done blues!
steven dennis what are you talking about………£500 million for that?? we are SOOOOOOO boring it is untrue and if you can’t see it then you are in denial. We need a team that plays wih style and flair for that amount of cash..
Chelsea were the last team to win at the old Wembley, and they are the first to get their hands on the FA Cup at the new Wembley!!!!!!!!
For that, Wembley will forever be resonating: “Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea….”
To Wembley, Chelsea will always be the “Alpha and Omega”!!!
I think they should repaint the entire stadium BLUE!
Well first of all congrats to Chelsea. It would have been a little harsh in some ways had you only had the Carling Cup to show for what has been an obviously impressive (if not aesthetically pleasing) season.
The game could have gone either way but I felt we paid the price for not starting with a striker.
I didn’t think it was a case of Ferriera having Ronnie in his pocket so much as Mourinho’s system keeping Ronnie quiet. SWP was there everytime and the space was not there.
I think it was a foul on Cech (although given that Bennett didn’t give a foul does that technically it was a goal given the ball went over the line?). But it definitely was a foul by Essien on Giggs - clear as day I’m afraid Jonathon.
But as I say I have no complaints and part of me feels it was fair for you to take the Cup in such close circumstances given we won the league in such a close race too. The goal was a good one too although I think Van de Sar was a little too afraid to commit himself. Cech would have come out a lot more strongly.
I have watched the mail again in a relaxed mode and contrary to my initial assessment, it wasn’t a dull game afterall. yeah, the pace of the game was slow but i tell you what only one team was playing and thats the team that won. Funny how there has been so much lol in the media today. seems they were not happy the blues won ! just a thought.
During the game, you would not realise how we technically killed man’u in the midfiled as they resorted only to long balls(which is unlike them), and Mikel was a genius in the pack running and running into space. TSO was spot on. The midfield formation and movement reminds me of our 2006 season. you’d guess my thinking for next season………………
Man’u NEVER deserved to win and i think i like their sour grapes as it not only makes me feel good hearing it more and more, but it shows how painful they feel after dreaming of a ‘treble’. ahahahahahahah
Up BLUES, Up TSO!
first’sentence should read ‘i have watched the match again ……’
Donkey’s Ears
It’s always good to have sensible views on here from other teams fans and supporters (Liverpool fans take note, you seem unable to do so!)
I think the penalty shout was rather difficult to call and do not think it was as clear as day as you point out.
If there was any contact it was minimal, and listening to the pundits afterwards only some of them thought there was contact but that was after the replays were shown.
So you can imagine it would have been a rather difficult call for the ref to make, after all you’ve had quite a few favourable shouts on penalties for and against this season ;-)
Evidently players like ferreira or fletcher are looking good, mediocre as they are, because they are rested. For some reason fans have trouble understanding this question of playing too many games in a season and how that decides silverware. Some sort of cognitive bias.
A question for the FA - what chance would either team have had in a Champions League final after extra time on Saturday on top of the congested fixture list (other than if they were playing each other again)?
Campo that is a good one for thought…I think the FA setup needs some one with a brain. Funny that the other leagues have been spaced enough to accomodate late finishes
DE - duly noted, having seen it again there was definitely contact; whether it put Giggs off enough is open to question.
Campo / Jose - valid points; had we made it to Athens it would have almost certainly been a game too far. Mind you, I thought that about Saturday!
This is what Chelsea is all about where loosing is not an option!!!
WELL DONE TO ALL THE PLAYERS MANAGER AND BACK ROOM STAFF. KUDOS!
As someone mentioned, we’ve played in all comps this season, no wonder we’ve slowed down a bit.
Drogba is the EPL player of the year - Ronaldo is good but Drogba is even better.
As for boring Chelsea, i’m not sure. Has any other team in the Prem got as many great goals to choose from for goal of the year? NO, i can only think of Matty Taylor at Portsmouth and all his goals.
Chelsea did really well this season and i’m even more proud to be a Chelsea fan.
………………………..K.T.B.F.F.H………………………..
The next idiot that says we should be more exciting for 500 million should be strung up. For 500 million I expect an incredible season in which we compete until the last month for the quad. If you don’t like the manner in which it is achieved go watch the Gooners play some exciting 4th place football. For 500 million, I’ll take the wins, thanks.
“Boring” is the cry of the spoiled. Take the wins and thank the Lord that you weren’t born a Charlton supporter.
well done bois u reli deserve to win summing over than the carling cup this season, g8 set up by lamps and fantastic goal by drogba
well done to the boys , manger and every1 at da club
