FA Cup Final review: Chelsea 1 - 0 Manchester United

Match reports

The Observer, Amy Lawrence: "After 116 minutes of uptight football, Chelsea delivered the FA Cup from the probability of its third consecutive penalty shoot-out. Didier Drogba, having lost out to Cristiano Ronaldo in the personal awards despite an exceptional personal campaign, stole the glory with a typically resilient example of the predator's arts. A shrewd one-two with Frank Lampard befuddled his marker Rio Ferdinand, and the Ivorian pounced to flick home his 33rd successful strike of the season."

Sunday Times, Joe Lovejoy: "The occasion apart, the first FA Cup final at the new Wembley will not linger long in the memory of the vast ma

John Terry has lifted the FA Cup at the new Wembley after Didier Drogba's late strike was enough to see off Manchester United.

The Ivorian scored his 33rd goal of the season in the 116th minute to seal the victory, Chelsea's fourth FA Cup Final success following wins in 1970, 1997, and 2000 - the last time the Final was played at the old Wembley stadium.

A proper review of the game will be forthcoming over the weekend.

The Times, Matt Hughes: "Mourinho rested Ashley Cole, Michael Essien and Claude Makelele and was fortunate to keep an unbeaten home league record stretching back to FC Porto’s defeat by Beira Mar five years ago. In doing so, Chelsea equalled Liverpool’s record of 63 top-flight matches at home without defeat, although a more telling statistic is the fact that Mourinho’s team have ended the season with five successive Premiership draws, their worst run of his reign. The lap of honour was muted, although Mourinho vowed to return next season."

The Independent, Jason Burt: "That

Daily Telegraph, Henry Winter: "Chelsea had lost their title, but clearly not their determination. Good blood and bad was spilt here. Joe Cole, his cheek cut in pursuit of the ball, even had to change his stained shirt, but the abiding memory was of the ill-will between two teams who fought tooth and nail for the Premiership and will soon collide again in the FA Cup final at Wembley. After the guard of honour, the running of the gauntlet."

The Independent, Sam Wallace: "What did we learn? That the FA Cup final will at least be a pulsating game and als

The Guardian, Kevin McCarra: "Who would have thought that Chelsea could turn themselves into gallant losers? If a third consecutive Premiership title was to be denied the Stamford Bridge side, they failed with a show of strength and talent. That let them come back for a draw despite being down to 10 men for the whole of the second half after the dismissal of the hapless Khalid Boulahrouz. Their desire to pull off the win that would have postponed the end of the contest with Manchester United was remarkable."

The Times, Matt Dickinson: "They gave it a good go — they always do — and a mighty effort by the Chel

The Guardian, Kevin McCarra: "These sides grappled with one another so fiercely that it was as if neither would ever let the other go free to reach the final in Greece on May 23."

The Times, Matt Dickinson: "The idea that his team might be rattled by the raucousness of a febrile occasion had seemed fanciful, but something made Chelsea unusually subdued in the first 30 minutes. They shook off that torpor — they had to — but only after Agger’s 22nd-minute goal had levelled the aggregate scores and created unbearable tension every time the ball went any
