Premiership preview: Portsmouth v. Chelsea
Chelsea could go into this game 12 points behind Manchester United.
But first Alex Ferguson’s side will have to become the first team to take 3 points off Liverpool at Anfield in 31 games.
Much will depend on Rafael Benitez’s starting eleven. With one eye on Tuesday’s game against Barcelona, he could be tempted to rest a number of players.
Should Liverpool win, Chelsea will be nine points adrift with two games in hand - and United still have to visit Stamford Bridge.
The first of those games in hand is against Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
John Terry has been ordered to rest after his head injury in last weekend’s League Cup win over Arsenal, while Joe Cole and Khalid Boulahrouz remain sidelined.
Harry Redknapp will be without Pedro Mendes who underwent surgery on damaged ankle ligaments on Thursday. Gary O’Neil and Sean Davis are also struggling with knocks.
Glen Johnson and Lauren will miss the game through ineligibility and injury respectively.
Chelsea have beaten Portsmouth in all seven previous Premiership meetings.
Pompey last tasted a League victory over the Blues on Boxing Day 1957.

LI-VER-POOL!!! LI-VER-POOL!!! LI-VER-POOL!!! Oh my god, what I’ve done?!!
*goes to bedroom with a gun and a bullet*
Well as I mentioned in a previous thread, we should have a better idea by 7pm this evening where the title is going.
C’mon you Blues!!
Liver - no, can’t do it…
Li - I also can not get there….
Loserpool Loserpool….ooops
Bastards.
Never trust a Scouser to help you.
Makes tonight even more of a must win, if that was possible.
I simply can not understand what have ManUre done to deserve this luck?
Yep a must win game tonight, it’s going to take a huge cock up by Manure for us in to win the title now!
United’s win at Craven Cottage decided the destiny of this season’s title.
Today’s result at Anfield just confirmed it.
Google found this:
“Anything that happens once does not necessarily happen again, everything that happens twice is likely to happen for the third time as well.â€
Champions League it is then…
Although the win by manure is disheartening - I take hope in the fact that Scholes will miss 3 games.
ManUre can slip up on some easier games without him - a couple of draws and a loss at the bridge could win it for us.
That said - my hats of too them for a great season. Let’s hope that next season their luck changes for the worse.
God Bless Roman’s Blue Army!!
As after the Liverpool defeat, my conscience is telling me that I should feel worse than I do.
United have been playing badly for the past six games, and yet haven’t suffered for it. Luck has truly been on their side.
I called my dad immediately after the match, and it looks like I’m going to have to prepare the £50 for the bet I’m going to lose. Full respect to them.
It still isn’t over, however unlikely it was United were going to come out of these past two fixtures losing absolutely nothing. They have to drop seven points in nine games, with two strikers and a key central midfield suspended for the next two or three. Draws with Bolton and Blackburn at home, and Portsmouth away are perfectly possible, and two will allow us straight back in it.
Let’s make sure the other three points are against us and hope for the best.
Chelsea what a win!!! Third gear effort game, 2:0 comfortable win.
Just sing it with me, muisc form that song both”
“One this day this Blue Maschine will go all over you”
Rooney was also injured-if he misses a few games it will be tough for United to score, especially away from Old Trafford.
A 0-2 win for us.We r still up there,right?
It is all like this two draws before ManU face us and it is down and square…
Never ever count on Liverpool to bring you something…and hey Barcelona was stunned as well last night…Things are not looking to bad after all…
Am looking at our schedules ManU and us and I am expecting manure to draw either with Bolton or with Blackburn or both… and am also forseeing Pompey with Glen Johnson bringing the game to Manure…If my calculations are right on the 15th April 2007 we will go top…
Have I been wrong yet? NO! Their luck is running out…
Just watch this space mrfergiecelebratebeforetheseasonend just you watch this space….
Lovely display…but shevy seems to play badly when Abram is watching…I wonder why????
Honestly I am glad the Loserpool of merseyside were beaten…I would rather look to everton getting a result than those sods in red.
La lutta continua
Just looked through my schedule and just realized we can not play Manure on the 14th of April as we have an engagement with Blackburn in the FA Cup semi-final. That mathc will have to be played on 09th May four days after playing Arsenal…
Has anyone had a look at our fixture? Crazy…Joe Cole will surely have a chance to play sometime this season….
Jose,
Yes you right we shall have to play this game after Arse-nal game. I do not know if it is better or worse anyway we have to win both games. I am not sure about Joe Cole even he recovers before the game after the whole season without training seems not probable for him to play.
